MOT & TAX manager · Last updated 10 October 2026
The short version. MOT & TAX manager has no account. The vehicles you add are stored only on your phone. To check their status, the app sends each number plate straight to the DVLA, and to no one else. I never receive your data. There are no ads, analytics or tracking.
Who I am
MOT & TAX manager is made by Thomas Martin, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. You can reach me at hello@thomas-martin.uk.
What the app stores
For each vehicle you add, the app keeps on your phone:
- the registration number, and how you'd like it displayed
- the details the DVLA returns: make, colour, fuel type, engine size, CO₂ emissions, weight, year of manufacture, tax status and due date, MOT status and expiry date, and the date the latest V5C logbook was issued
- when it was last updated
None of this is sent to me, and there is no server of mine involved.
The DVLA
When you add a vehicle, sync it, or the app refreshes it in the background (about once a week), your phone sends the registration number directly to the DVLA's Vehicle Enquiry Service, an official UK government service. The DVLA receives the registration number and your phone's IP address, as with any web request. It doesn't receive your name or any other details. See the DVLA personal information charter.
Reminders
MOT and tax reminders are scheduled on your phone as local notifications. They aren't sent through a server, and nothing about them leaves your device.
Permissions
- Notifications: for MOT and tax reminders. You can turn them off in your phone's Settings at any time.
Subscriptions
Pro subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I don't receive your name, Apple ID or payment details. Apple only gives me anonymised sales reports. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings.
What I don't do
The app contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites. I don't sell or share any data. If you've opted in to sharing analytics with developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send me anonymised crash reports and usage statistics.
Deleting your data
Delete a vehicle in the app to remove it and its reminders. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your phone.
If a Pro subscription ends while you have more than one vehicle, the app keeps the most recently updated one and removes the rest, along with their reminders.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including access and deletion. Because the app never sends your data to me, it's already under your control on your device. For data the DVLA holds, contact the DVLA. If you have a question, email hello@thomas-martin.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update it here and change the date at the top.
