Mnemonic Password · Last updated 10 October 2026
The short version. Mnemonic works entirely on your phone. It doesn't connect to the internet, doesn't keep your photos or passwords, and never sends me anything. There are no ads, analytics or tracking.
Who I am
Mnemonic Password is made by Thomas Martin, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. You can reach me at hello@thomas-martin.uk.
What the app does with your photo
When you choose a photo, Mnemonic reads that one image file on your phone and calculates a fingerprint of it (a SHA-256 hash), which it turns into your password. It also reads the date the photo was taken, if the photo has one, to show under the preview.
The photo, its fingerprint and the password are only kept in memory while you're using that screen. Mnemonic doesn't save them. Nothing is uploaded, because the app makes no network requests.
Clipboard
When you tap Copy, the password is placed on your phone's clipboard so you can paste it elsewhere. Like anything you copy, it stays there until you copy something else. With Universal Clipboard, iOS may make it available on your other Apple devices.
Permissions
- Photos: to let you choose an image. Mnemonic only reads the photo you pick.
You can change this in your phone's Settings at any time.
What I don't do
Mnemonic contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites. I don't collect, sell or share any data. If you've opted in to sharing analytics with developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send me anonymised crash reports and usage statistics.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data. Mnemonic doesn't send or store any, so there's nothing held about you to access or delete. If you have a question, email hello@thomas-martin.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Mnemonic is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update it here and change the date at the top.
